Friday night live at Transistor: indie-world-soul from Nino Arobelidze. Sound by Jon Monteverde.

Nino Arobelidze is a wonder,” wrote Chicago’s own Andy Willis following Nino’s sold-out show at Uncommon Ground-Edgewater on April 4th, 2015. “You cannot know unless you go and hear for yourself. If you love Fado, Flamenco, Bossa Nova, Jazz and Torch with simmering Hip Hop - you will be taken on a journey most welcome. Delightful in every sense. Enough edge to keep me wide eyed and glad to be in this night.”

Hailing from Tbilisi-Georgia, Nino Arobelidze moved to Chicago to make music and develop her sound. While still studying classical vocal performance at DePaul University Music School, Nino became the first vocalist to be an artist in residence at the North Shore Hotel in Evanston, where she held a weekly lecture/performance series for three years.

Nino’s voice is often described as pure and effortless with a timeless vintage twist. While her imaginative phrasing and swagger are reminiscent of a skilled instrumentalist, her treatment of language is driven by the power of words and the magic of subtlety. “Nino Arobeldze creates new crossroads between pop, jazz, soul and damn good beat boxing,” writes Hannah Frank (OnAxis Music).

For this, her third Transistor appearance, Nino was joined by her band – featuring Pablo Gordy (guitar) and Meg Thomas (percussion) – for a groove and melody-heavy set of original songs and unexpected arrangements.
